Economics in College with Jay Bryson, Chief Economist of Wells Fargo

Jay Bryson, the Chief Economist at Wells Fargo, discussed pursuing economics in college and the impacts of rising student loan debt. He also compared the various economics-related degrees that one can obtain in college and beyond, and related career paths. He then talked about the causes, impacts, and potential solutions regarding rising student loan debt and college tuition costs.

Dr. Jay Bryson has been a Managing Director and the Chief Economist at Wells Fargo since August 2018, where he provides analysis on economic issues in major world economies and provides forecasts for macroeconomic variables. Before this, he was Wells Fargo's Global Economist, a role that he began in 1998. Prior to joining Wells Fargo, he was an economist in the Division of International Finance at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC. He began his career as an assistant professor of economics at the University of Alabama, and has lectured on international economics and macroeconomics at the School for Advanced International Studies at John Hopkins University and Georgetown University. His comments regularly appear in The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and USA Today, and is often on CNBC and Bloomberg TV. He is a member of the American Economic Association, the Charlotte Economics Club, and the National Association for Business Economics, where he served on the board of directors from 2010 to 2013. He earned a BA and Ph.D. in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
