Melissa Washington is the SVP of Governmental Affairs at ComEd, which includes the Economic and Workforce Development (EWD) team. Melissa spoke to the Junior Economic Club of Chicago about ComEd’s approach to economic and workforce development.

She discussed ComEd’s history of growing the regional economy as well as their current focus on strengthening local communities to drive job creation and investment that benefit neighborhoods. She also covered how economic and workforce development leverages relationships, data analytics, and ComEd’s energy-related strengths to support competitive customers’ decisions to invest and grow.

Finally, she also discussed how workforce development is the compilation of comprehensive, focused actions to build economic and human capital in order to create business and community sustainability, remove barriers to decrease unemployment and underemployment, and ensure a highly-skilled workforce for the rapidly transforming industry and region in which ComEd serves.
