Andrew Sassower

Andrew Sassower graduated from Walter Payton College Prep and is studying economics at Northwestern University. In high school, Andrew co-chaired his high school's student run endowment and the economics and investment team, and was the captain of the varsity soccer team among other clubs and activities. Andrew enjoys going on long bike rides and playing golf in his free time.
Carlos Murillo
Vice President, 2023-2024 | Columbia University
Carlos Murillo graduated from Whitney M. Young Magnet High School and is now studying economics and jazz studies at Columbia University. Carlos served as Chicago Vice President and Director of Communications, as well as Director of the National Junior Economist during his time at JEC. Carlos also participated in numerous business competitions in high school, placing 2nd in the CapGemini National Business Pitch Competition. Carlos enjoys creating and performing music with others.
Armaan Shah

Armaan Shah graduated from the Latin School of Chicago and is studying economics at Harvard University. In high school, Armaan served as Student Government President, an Editor-in-Chief of The Forum, and soccer captain. He has interned for the Economic Awareness Council where he conducted financial literacy presentations, wrote articles, and assisted with research.
Nikita Agrawal

Nikita Agrawal graduated from Whitney Young High School and is now studying Computer Science and Engineering at MIT. She is passionate about financial education and co-founded FinPro World, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, which has an innovative approach of advancing financial literacy through computer programming. Nikita was named a Prudential Emerging Visionary and is a Coca-Cola Scholar. Nikita is interested in science and mathematics and received the Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS) Scholar recognition in 2024. She is also a karate black belt and avid martial arts practitioner, having received both national and regional level awards.
Leo Kantrow
President, 2021-2022 | Northwestern University
Leo Kantrow graduated from Walter Payton College Prep and is now studying economics at Northwestern University. In high school, Leo led his school’s economics team to success in a number of business and investment-related competitions, and participated in several other clubs and activities. He is currently working as a part time analyst at Magnetar Capital.
Cole Francis
Vice President, 2021-2022 | Brown University
Cole Francis is the former 2021-22 Vice President of JEC. Prior to this role, Cole served on the Marketing Team as Assistant Marketing Officer and Chief Marketing Officer consecutively. He is a graduate of Jones College Prep High School in the South Loop neighborhood of Chicago. Cole will be continuing his post-secondary education at Brown University in Fall 2022, while concentrating in Economics and Environmental Studies. Cole is excited to explore Rhode Island and challenge the issues he sees involving climate change, policy, and economic disparities.
ELIZABETH BRAHIN

Lizzy Brahin graduated from Walter Payton College Prep and is studying Applied Math & Economics at Harvard University. She is passionate about increasing access to financial education and, in addition to JEC, led On the Money Magazine and served as a Peer Money Mentor. Lizzy also founded Queens United Chess, where she developed a CPS-funded program empowering girls in chess. She has been recognized as a Coolidge Senator, a GE-Reagan Scholarship Semifinalist, and a Finalist in both the Wharton Global Investment Competition and National Personal Finance Challenge.
BAHA KHAROOFA

Baha Kharoofa graduated from Saint Ignatius College Prep and is attending the University of Michigan. In high school, he was the President of the Robotics Team, the President of the Medical Club, and the Vice President of the Entrepreneurship Club at Saint Ignatius. He continuously volunteered at Care for Real, a food pantry in the north side of Chicago, and has interned at NewMedical Technology, a medical device company that creates scar refinement systems, during the summer.
Nina Boord

Nina graduated from Jones College Prep and is now studying engineering and entrepreneurship at Stanford University. She is the founder and former CEO of Teen Insider, an online magazine for high school students. In addition, she has interned at MakerGirl, a nonprofit that exposes girls ages 7-10 to STEM through 3D printing, and BundlAR, an augmented reality tech startup.
Tiana Luo

Tiana graduated from Northside College Prep in 2020. She is studying economics at Yale University. A Coolidge Scholarship finalist and former president of 2 school community clubs, Tiana continues to read widely and write avidly.
Carina Peng

Carina graduated from Northside College Prep and is now studying economics at Harvard University. In addition to JEC, she acted as the Student Advisory Council Co-Chair at the Illinois Board of Education and fought for a CPS curriculum that better helps immigrant students. She also started a business through MIT’s LaunchX program.

Roshaan graduated from Chicago Math & Science Academy and is now studying Computer Science at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. He is currently the VP of Operations at YouthHack and a software engineer intern at MassVR.

Sam Lurye
President and Founder, 2014-2016 | Stanford University
Sam graduated from Lincoln Park High School and studied electrical engineering at Stanford University. He was the CEO and Co-Founder of Social Synergy Media and created a dating app for high school students. He was also a researcher at Nero Prosthetic Systems Laboratory. He is now the Founder and CEO of Kargo.
Samir Hadzic
Vice President and Founder, 2014-2016 | Columbia University
Samir graduated from Lincoln Park High School and Columbia University with a degree in Statistics. At Lincoln Park, he started the Chess Institute of Chicago to give free chess education to elementary school students. He has since worked in analyst and data science roles at Applecart and Roc 360. He is now a data scientist at Chowbus.
